Dimension classification attempts to answer the following question: given a parametrized family of dimensions {D𝜏}𝜏 ∈ 𝒯, what are the possible functions 𝜏 ↦ D𝜏(E) for (say) subsets E ⊂ ℝd? This problem is most interesting for continuously parametrized families of dimensions, such as the Assouad and the lower spectrum. I will give an overview of some recent classification results from the reference point of branching functions, which capture dimensional properties of a set as a function of scale. Based on joint work with Orgoványi and with Banaji–Chen–Wang.
