Introduction:
The group has two primary research interests. The first is concentrated around the study and classification of differentiable manifold and their invariants, mainly in low-dimensional cases. This includes knot theory, contact 3-manifolds, Heegaard Floer theory, Khovanov theory, Seiberg-Witten theory, low-dimensional surgery techniques, and their applications. The second research area is the theory of complex algebraic/analytic varieties, with a special emphasize on the local theory of singularities, including the study of their analytic and topological invariants.
The bridge between the two research areas is realized by the links of singularities, creating common research objectives (e.g., topological and analytical lattice homology, topological invariants of links of singularities, and their effects on analytic invariants).
The department runs a weekly seminar.
