We discuss the problem of counting number fields of given degree and bounded discriminant, with emphasis on upper bounds. The approach of Lemke, Oliver, and Thorne, using geometry of numbers and a
little bit of algebraic geometry, is explained in detail. Finally, we talk about potential ways to improve the method.
